The Two Coaches
Missouri head coach Frank Haith served as an assistant coach at Texas with coach Rick Barnes for three seasons (2002-04). During this time, the Longhorns posted a 73-27 (.730) mark. Texas made three consecutive trips to the “Sweet 16” of the NCAA tourney, including a run to the Final Four in 2003.
Series vs. Missouri
Monday’s contest marks the 24th meeting between Texas and Missouri. UT holds a slim 12-11 edge in the all-time series, which dates back to a 65-46 Texas victory on Dec. 26, 1946 (an opening-round contest at the All-College Tournament in Oklahoma City). The Horns are 10-5 against the Tigers during the Rick Barnes era. UT holds a 6-3 advantage in games played in Austin in the all-time series entering Monday’s contest.
“Big Monday” Home Cooking
Texas has been a tough team to beat on Monday evenings when ESPN’s cameras have broadcast games from the Erwin Center. The Horns hold a 15-4 mark in ESPN “Big Monday” home contests entering Monday’s game. Nine of the 15 victories have come against AP Top 25 opposition.

Baylor Game Notes
Texas fell to 26-5 against Baylor during the Rick Barnes era (12-2 in games at Baylor).
UT recorded a 20-4 advantage in points off turnovers.
J’Covan Brown (32 points) topped the 30-point mark for the third time this year and in his career (90 games). He topped the 20-point mark for the 11th time this season and 19th time in his career. Brown reached double figures in scoring for the 19th time this year and 52nd time in his career. He set a career high in field goals made (11-of-22).
Myck Kabongo (12 points) reached double figures in scoring for the 12th time this year and fifth time in Big 12 play.
Julien Lewis set a career high in steals (four).
Horns at Home
Texas is in its 35th year of play in the Frank Erwin Center. The Longhorns have registered an all-time record of 419-96 (.814) in the building. Since Rick Barnes arrived in Austin, UT has recorded a 194-25 (.886) mark at the Erwin Center, including a 91-17 (.843) record in Big 12 Conference home games. Texas is 104-10 (.912) at the Erwin Center in the last seven seasons (dating to the start of the 2005-06 season).
Home Success Against the Best
Texas has won nine of its last 12 home games against AP Top 10 opponents during the Rick Barnes era. In Barnes’ 14 years in Austin, the Horns are 13-6 against AP Top 10 foes at the Erwin Center. UT owns a 29-12 (.707) mark against AP Top 25 opponents under Rick Barnes at the Erwin Center.
Beating the Best
UT’s win at No. 2 Kansas last year (Jan. 22) equaled the highest-ranked (AP) opponent the Longhorns have defeated in school history. Six of Texas’ nine all-time wins against AP Top Three teams have come during the Rick Barnes era.
Defense Wins
Solid defense has been a trademark of the Texas program under Rick Barnes. This year, UT has allowed an average of 65.4 ppg on 39.5% FG shooting. Texas also has limited its first 21 opponents to 225 assists against 295 turnovers. Since Barnes arrived in Austin, the Horns have held 225 of their 466 opponents to under 40% FG shooting. Texas sports a 206-19 (.916) mark in the Barnes era when accomplishing the feat (10-0 this year).
What Can Brown Do For You?
Junior guard J’Covan Brown has played in 90 career games (30 starts). A Preseason All-Big 12 Team selection, Brown leads the team in scoring (19.7 ppg), steals (27) and minutes (34.2 mpg) and ranks second in assists (4.0 apg). He has converted 41.5% (140-of-337) of his field goal attempts, including a 52-of-138 (.377) mark from three-point range. Brown has recorded 30-plus points three times this year, topped the 20-point mark 11 times and reached double figures in scoring in 19 of the first 21 games. He registered a game-high 32 points (11-of-22 FG) and five assists at No. 6/7 Baylor (Jan. 28).
Kabongo Takes the Point
Myck Kabongo leads the team in assists (5.5 apg), ranks second in steals (25) and is third in scoring (9.9 ppg) this season. He has recorded at least five assists in 12 of the first 21 games this year. Kabongo has reached double figures in scoring in 12 of the first 21 contests this season. Kabongo registered 12 points (2-of-2 threes), five assists against just one turnover and four rebounds at No. 6/7 Baylor (Jan. 28).
Holmes Continues Productive Play
Jonathan Holmes ranks fifth on the team in scoring (7.9 ppg), second in rebounding (5.2 rpg) and third in blocked shots (14) while converting 52.4% (54-of-103) from the floor and 75.8% (50-of-66) from the free throw line. He has reached double figures in scoring in eight of the first 21 games.
Lewis Finding His Role
Julien Lewis ranks third on the team in steals (24) and fourth in scoring (8.0 ppg) this year. He has reached double figures in points in eight of his first 20 games. He registered six points, six rebounds (three offensive), two assists and a career-high four steals in 35 minutes at No. 6/7 Baylor (Jan. 28).
