Texas Men come back to beat Kansas State, 75-64

The Longhorns overcame a thirteen point deficit to get a big win at home against the Wildcats.

AUSTIN, Texas -- J'Covan Brown scored 23 points and Texas got a career effort from senior forward Alexis Wangmene to rally to a 75-64 victory over Kansas State on Saturday.

The Longhorns' third win in a row is an important one for a team desperate to build its NCAA tournament resume over the final weeks of the regular season.

Texas trailed 40-27 at halftime before battling back.

Brown, the Big 12's leading scorer, made a deep 3-pointer to put the Longhorns ahead with just over 8 minutes to play.

Wangmene had his first career double-double for Texas (16-9, 6-6 Big 12). His 15 points and 13 rebounds were both career highs.

Angel Rodriguez scored 15 points for Kansas State (17-7, 6-6), but the point guard also had six of his team's 16 turnovers.

Longhorn Men survive in win over Aggies

In possibly the final game of the Texas-Texas A&M basketball rivalry, the Longhorns had three players score in double-digits as the Men from Austin beat the Aggies, 70-68, on the road.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- J'Covan Brown hit the go-ahead layup with less than a minute remaining and later added a pair of free throws to lift Texas to a 70-68 win over Texas A&M on Monday night.

The win is the Longhorns' fifth straight over A&M in the last regular-season Big 12 meeting between these schools with the Aggies leaving for the Southeastern Conference.

Brown's free throws with 17 seconds remaining made it 70-67. Elston Turner was fouled before he could get a shot off on the other end. He made one free throw and missed the second one, and Julien Lewis grabbed the rebound to cap the Texas win.

Brown led the Longhorns (15-9, 5-6) with 20 points and Sheldon McClellan added 15. Turner had 20 points for Texas A&M (12-11, 3-8), which has dropped three straight.

GAME NOTES: Still searching for their first Big 12 Conference road win of the season, the Texas Longhorns give it a shot tonight when they clash with the Aggies of Texas A&M at Reed Arena in College Station.

Not only have the Longhorns lost all four of their road conference tests thus far, but they have won just a single true road game (UCLA, 69-59), and only once in eight outings outside of Austin altogether. Over the weekend, Texas was able to get back into the win column at home with a 74-57 triumph over Texas Tech, snapping a two-game slide and securing just its second win in the last seven contests overall.

As for the Aggies, they've had a tough time getting it together against the rest of the conference and head into the new week with only three wins in 10 opportunities versus Big 12 foes. On Saturday, the team was dumped by Kansas State on the road in a 64-53 decision, which means A&M has fallen in two straight and three of the last four games overall.

The Longhorns won the first meeting of the season back on January 11 by a score of 61-51 in Austin, even as A&M's Khris Middleton recorded a double- double for the visitors with game highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds. With the victory, Texas widened its margin in the all-time series to 136-85.

Clint Chapman scored a game-high 20 points as he helped lead the Texas Longhorns to the 17-point win over the visiting Texas Tech Red Raiders in conference play on Saturday. Chapman also cleared nine rebounds and delivered five blocked shots for the 'Horns, as they snapped a two-game slide. Sheldon McClellan and J'Covan Brown both added 17 points for the hosts as well. In addition to easily outscoring the visitors at the free-throw line, 25-9, the Longhorns also won the rebounding battle by a 41-25 margin as well. Brown, one of only two players to have started every game for Texas on the season, leads the team in scoring with his 19.6 ppg, getting the job done at the free-throw line where he is 83.2 percent successful. Myck Kabongo, the other full-time starter, is responsible for 9.8 ppg and has handed out 119 assists which is easily the top mark for a Texas program which is outscoring the competition by almost nine points per outing.

Points were at a premium in the meeting with Kansas State over the weekend, as the Aggies hit just nine field goals in both the first and second halves which left them with one fewer basket than turnovers (19) as they suffered yet another road loss. Elston Turner tried to keep hope alive with his 18 points, while Naji Hibbert responded with 14 points and a team-best six rebounds, but while the pair was connecting on 11-of-25 from the floor, that meant the rest of their teammates combined for just seven baskets overall. It also didn't help that A&M made just 8-of-15 shots at the free-throw line. Turner and his 38.4 percent shooting behind the three-point line is carrying this offense with 14.5 ppg and that may have to be the case again tonight seeing as how Khris Middleton (12.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg) is listed as questionable with a strained right knee. Should Middleton remain on the sidelines that means the only other double-digit scorer for the Aggies is David Loubeau, who has drummed up 11.0 ppg.

Defense will be the name of the game for Texas A&M again tonight, the goal being to frustrate the visiting Longhorns just enough so that the Aggies can make their move. However, if Middleton is not involved in the action that objective just became much more difficult to achieve.

Texas men blow out Texas Tech
