As you may have heard, Wyatt McSpadden, a Clay-Kizer regular for more than 13 years, is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Wyatt has worked as a Saturday afternoon marshal and also helped with the UIL State Tournament for 10 of those years. Now he is facing lymphoepithelioma, a particularly aggressive head-and-neck cancer that affects only seven Americans per million. Wyatt and his wife, Nancy McMillen, need our help. This help can come in a lot of forms—positive thoughts, cheering messages, homemade meals, errand-running—and especially, for those who are able, financial donations.
Besides having a very high insurance deductible, Wyatt and Nancy are incurring significant travel expenses—he is being treated at M.D. Anderson in Houston, which is renowned for its success in cancer care. Ironically, the walls of MDA feature portraits of patients that Wyatt has taken over the years, never imagining he himself might qualify as a subject. He and Nancy face stays in Houston of up to seven consecutive weeks as Wyatt continues chemotherapy and then begins radiation. His loss of income is also a factor.
We believe that, despite tough economic times, friends, family, and colleagues will come through for Wyatt. As a result, we have set up the Wyatt McSpadden Medical FUND. If you are able to donate—and any amount is most welcome!—there are two ways to do so.
